14. Jack Taylor – $12.9 billion

Jack Taylor enrolled at Olin Business School Washington University, but he never graduated. He left school to join the Navy. When he left the Navy and returned to St. Louis, he took a job at a Lindberg Cadillac dealership and worked his way up to sales manager. In 1957, he started a car leasing business at the dealership, targeting people who were getting their cars serviced. In 1969, he named his company Enterprise and expanded beyond St. Louis.
