Bono and Alison were wed in 1982 and at the time could not even afford a honeymoon. That did not last long, as U2 became a sensation the following year. Their marriage began to struggle as Alison found it difficult to cope with fame and having to give up her dream of becoming a nurse. The couple did have four children and they made it through a number of rough patches, including Allison having to raise the kids while he was on tour.
