John Cazale was a dedicated actor who died well before his time. He appeared in The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon and The Deer Hunter. He was actually aware that he was dying, and so the shooting schedule for The Deer Hunter had to be rearranged so that he could film his scenes prior to his death. At the time he was in a relationship with his co-star Meryl Streep. He died March 12, 1978 at the age of 42.
